Celebrating 50 years of Indoor Bowls in Hartlepool
Novices and Newbies
At Hartlepool Indoor Bowls Club, the Ladies And Gents Committees are working together to attract and help new bowlers to the club. Over the next few months we hope to organise various events and competitions to enable new and novice bowlers to integrate smoothly into the club and the leagues, giving as much assistance as possible to their development. A coaching programme has already started on a Tuesday at 12.30, and is well attended. The Ladies Committee started the ball rolling on Monday 14th November, with a Novices Singles Competition. More competitions are in the pipeline, please see the notice boards for details .
Novice Singles Competition
Monday 14th November
Today's fundraising event started with a "Sorry we haven't got a domino card", card draw. The winning prize, a bottle of wine, which was donated by Margaret Callan, was won by Gareth Orr.
This was followed by eight novice bowlers, both men and women, taking part in their first indoor bowls competition. This in itself can be a daunting experience for novices, but I hasten to add, NOT our novices, each and every one approached the mat full of confidence and pride, all played some outstanding shots, and didn't let themselves down. We certainly saw our future Inter Club and National bowlers out there today.
A round robin of three games, five ends, was fiercely contested by all, with the winner, on 21 shots, Peter Hall. being closely followed by runner up Shirley Sumpter on 20 shots. Gold and Silver medals were presented by Ladies President Sandra Hindmarsh and Lady Secretary Kay Liddle.
It was lovely to have the support of many lady bowlers, to mark, or just watch the bowlers strutting their stuff. Without their support, we would be hard pressed to run competitions, so a big thank you to each and every one.
A total of £32 was raised to contribute towards the refurbishment fund, which the club very much appreciates, and we would like to thank the lady members for organising and attending the competition, and also to the competitors for making it a success.
Hopefully this will be the first of many events, to take the club forward, and keep attracting new blood into the club.
Thanks everyone for your efforts.
